Differences between standard Pulse Lavage unit and our Pulsar II™ Irrigator
Below I will endeavour to highlight the distinct differences between a Pulse Lavage unit which is and has been used for years in the operating room environment, compared with our purposely designed Pulsar Irrigator. We have sold our Pulse Lavage into in excess of 50 different countries around the world over the past 9 years during which time have shipped out 100’s of thousands of units, so believe that we know as well as anybody about Pulse Lavage. Pulse Lavage was primarily designed for use in Arthroplasty procedures, not wound care.
Pulse Lavage
1. Pulse Lavage – not accurately controlled pressure can vary so much dependant on the manufacturer, often pressures can reach 40+ Psi which is just not suitable for wound care.
2. Pulse Lavage – has quite a noisy motor as it really does not matter when being used in the O.R. when the patient is anesthetised.
3. Pulse Lavage – Relies on a touch action which is required to gain effective suction to remove the solution being administered for cleansing
4. Pulse Lavage – The spray pattern/configuration of the nozzle is very different to the Pulsar as the Pulse Lavage unit was originally designed for a very different purpose.
5. Pulse Lavage – Most all Pulse Lavage units on the market today (including ours) are designed for SINGLE USE and discarded immediately after the operation is complete. Not designed to last longer than one use.
6. Pulse Lavage – To my knowledge there is not a soft flexible tip available for tunnelling wounds as it would be difficult to engineer such given that there has to be suction incorporated for the unit to function.
7. Pulse Lavage – No hook incorporated in design for hanging the unit on drip pole during usage as it is usually just laid on the patient between usage during the operation.
Pulsar II™ Irrigator
1. Pulsar II™ Irrigator – Designed with exacting controlled 8Psi and 15Psi constant delivery of solution delivery higher delivery pressure can risk driving Bio-load deeper into the wound bed and damaging delicate underlying tissue.
2. Pulsar II™ Irrigator – Designed with NO SUCTION the containment and disposal of the solution is handled by the CPI bag itself, so the Pulsar Irrigator is totally mobile and can be used in any location.
3. Pulsar II™ Irrigator – Designed with a defined optimal spray pattern to maximise cleaning/debridement action whilst not damaging viable delicate tissue but effective to remove debris, exuate, slough, biofilm etc..
4. Pulsar II™ Irrigator – Has a purpose built separate power pack, which has a hook incorporated in the design so it can be hung on the drip pole out of the way of the actual working environment, again making the unit totally portable and the power pack is designed to last much longer allowing for multiple usage if required
5. Pulsar II™ Irrigator – We have designed and produced a very soft flexible tip which is supplied separately in a sterile pack ready for use it simply fits onto the Pulsar Irrigator it has graduations clearly marked on it to monitor the depth of insertion, for effective safe usage of tunnel wounds. The spray pattern at the tip of this flexible nozzle is purposely designed for optimum results the solution is delivered at a controlled pressure of 4psi so as not to damage delicate tissue, in a radial manner to effectively debride the sides of the Tunnel/Sinus/Fistula.
6. Pulsar II™ Irrigator has an integrated high power LED light to illuminate area of wound during treatment, this light can be used for inspection of the wound bed even when not irrigating the wound.
7. Pulsar II™ Irrigator – We have incorporated in the design of the hand piece a hook which enables the hand piece to be hung onto the drip pole during set up and after treatment for storage to be reused if appropriate with a new sterile packed tip with each collection bag supplied.
8. Pulsar II™ Irrigator will never harm or damage any viable tissue only removes non-viable tissue matter and Biofilm so never increases the size of the wound, as such does not have to be used in a special facility such as the O.R. by a trained physician.
